This year, even more than ever before, the open road is calling many of us. Road trips can be long or short, but they always require planning your in-car entertainment to pass the time. While music and audio books are great options, at Ad Results Media we are understandably biased toward podcasts as the perfect companions for the open road. We have curated this Ultimate Guide to Podcasts For Your Summer Road Trips — including something from everyone.

Because you can’t watch Sports Center when you are driving…

Pardon My Take

The Barstool Sports show is hosted by Dan “Big Cat” Katz and PFT Commenter (played by Eric Sollenberger) and new episodes are dropped three times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Most Pardon My Take episodes consist of three parts: (1) the hosts open the show with a recap of current sports news, (2) news is followed by an interview with a sports personality, celebrity, journalist, or athlete and (3) the show is closed with a collection of recurring original segments which vary episode to episode. If you are looking for humility, this is not the show for you. The hosts’ self-declared “loudest and most correct sports takes in the history of the spoken word” will keep you laughing and in an awe of their bluntness.

For the solo traveler who misses people but appreciates not having a “back seat” driver

Armchair Expert

Dax Shepard hosts a candid and endearing show on “the messiness of being human” that will provide the ultimate companion for those on solo road trips. He leans on his decade of sobriety, a degree in anthropology and four years of improv training to pull frank and honest storytelling out of his guests. His guests range from everyone from former 2020 presidential candidate and current NYC mayoral hopeful, Andrew Yang to music icons like Macklemore and Robin Thicke.

The Armchair Expert Umbrella also includes Nurture vs. Nurture, a podcast hosted by Dr. Wendy Mogel (@drwendymogel), a clinical psychologist and the New York Times best-selling author of books such as The Blessing of a Skinned Knee and Voice Lessons for Parents, that invites listeners to an intimate discussion between Dr. Wendy and a new set of parents every week.

Traveling to visit your family whom you deem crazy? This one will make you feel a little better.

My Dad Wrote a Porno

A British podcast hosted by Jamie Morton, James Cooper, and Alice Levine and episodes feature Morton reading a new chapter of an amateur erotic novel, titled Belinda Blinked, written by his father under the pen name Rocky Flintstone. The podcast recording usually takes place informally in one of the hosts’ houses and is edited by Morton into one 40-minute episode. The podcast originated at a family gathering for Morton’s sister’s birthday, where Morton’s father took him into his study and handed him some chapters of a novel he had been writing under the pen name Rocky Flintstone in his garden shed because his mother won’t let his father write it in the house. See, don’t you feel better about your own family now?

Going on a camping trip and afraid of the wilderness? These 2 Bears are just what you need.

2 Bears, 1 Cave

Friends and fellow stand-up comedians, Tom Segura and Bert Kreischer, host the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast. Where they just hang out and talk some sh*t. This show is produced weekly and has over 70 episodes currently available for download that are guaranteed to make you laugh all the way to your campsite.

Ad Results Media also recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Bert Kreischer 1:1 to talk about how the podcasting medium has been rocket fuel for the career of so many comedians. View the full interview here.

Love you some True Crime? This is the podcast that inspired all of the dramatic reenactments

Dirty John

If you don’t know the Dirty John story, you have probably never watched the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN). If you love the true crime genre and have never heard the Dirty John story, you’re welcome, we accept your gratitude. Debra Newell is a successful interior designer. She meets John Meehan, a handsome man who seems to check all the boxes: attentive, available, just back from a year in Iraq with Doctors Without Borders. But her family doesn’t like John, and they get entangled in an increasingly complex web of love, deception, forgiveness, denial, and ultimately, survival. Reported and hosted by Christopher Goffard from the L.A. Times, Dirty John tells the full story with captivating detail.

Also because you can’t drink mimosas and brunch with the ladies while driving…

Lady Gang

The Ladygang is a weekly podcast featuring Keltie Knight, Becca Tobin, and Jac Vanek. Self-described as “Inspired by their bottomless mimosa brunches, each week, a celebrity guest joins the girls for a raw, honest, and hilarious look at what life is really like under the bright lights of Hollywood.” This podcast is the ultimate road trip companion to help pass the time through insane, hysterical and magnetic banter between the hosts and their weekly guests on the topics of the day that range from frivolous to cheeky.

There are many many more, but these are our top picks for the season and happy road-tripping everyone!
